New chapter on the horizon for town hall building

THE community group aiming to restore
Kirkintilloch Town Hall Preservation Trust members have been working tirelessly to raise funds to renovate and reopen the B-listed building in Union Street. The hall was closed by East Dunbartonshire Council in 2004.
More than £1,000 has been raised from sales of 'The Diary of a Town Hall', a book about the hall's history researched and written by Kirkintilloch and District Society of Antiquaries.
Kirkintilloch Town Hall Preservation Trust has hundreds of members from all over the world.
Vice-chairperson Pam McGaughrin said: "I would like to thank the Society of Antiquaries for the countless hours they put in to producing the book.
"We all know this was long and difficult work, but the trust has received all the benefits. They have raised over £1,000, all of which goes towards helping save the town hall."
Pam added: “This has inspired us to have 'Special Friends of the Town Hall' boards in the hall.”
“These will recognise the groups and people who have been so generous like the Society of Antiquaries, Connelly Security, Archibald Young Foundry and Robert Wilson Painter and Decorators."
A fundraising event has been arranged by the trust in Smiths Hotel, Kirkintilloch, from 7.30pm on Friday, May 30.
Entertainment will be provided by Swing Guitars and Off the Cuff, who will play a range of blues, country, jazz and swing music.
Tickets are available (£5) from the Park Centre, Regent Centre, Smiths Hotel, Wallaces Stationary and from Trust members.
Members of Kirkintilloch Town Hall Preservation Trust and Kirkintilloch and District Society of Antiquaries, are pictured with copies of “The Diary of a Town Hall”.
The book is available for £10 at William Patrick Library, Wallaces, from Trust members or by calling Pam McGaughrin on 0141 578 3708.
